The Port Arthur Historic Site was a penal settlement, opened in 1830 and finally closed in 1877. The are numerous buildings including the seperate prison, asylum, museum, commanants house, lime kiln, church, hospital and numerous other buildings. At Saltwater River there are further ruins and a coal mine. At Eaglehawk Neck visitors can marvel at the Tasman Arch, Devils kitchen and Blow and on the other side the Tessellated pavement.. Tasman Island cruises operate out of Pirates Bay offering a 3 hour wilderness cruise down the coastline to Tasman Island.
