Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

The Australian Capital Territory, often known as ACT, is the capital territory of the Commonwealth of Australia. It is situated within New South Wales and about 3.5 hrs south west of Sydney. The capital state is 2400 square meters in area. Canberra which is the Capital of ACT is also the national capital. Canberra is one of the world’s best planned cities and has become an increasing source of pride for Australians. Its public buildings, stunning parklands and bush reserves, its leafy suburbs and broad, tree-lined streets are a result of brilliant architecture and outstanding planning.
The land on which the capital city is built was first discovered by Charles Throsby Smith and his party of explorers in 1820. Canberra city was built on an undulating plain in an amphi-theartre of the Australian Alps. The Molonglo River runs through the city. The river was damned in 1964  which then created Lake Burley Griffin. Canberra has been developed around Lake Burley Griffin.
While in Canberra/ACT, you could visit the Museums, Parliament House, National Institute of Sport and Science. The ACT is famous for its picturesque lake, parklands and native bushland surrounds. Canberra offers stylish restaurants, bars, interesting boutique shops and various festivities and events for you to enjoy throughout the year.
An artist’s impression of Australia can be discovered by visiting the National Gallery of Australia. For interactive, family-friendly fun, you  cannot go past the National Museum of Australia and Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre. You can learn about our military history at the Australian War Memorial or the secrets of our sporting accolades at the Australian Institute of Sport. Rummage over records and historical photos and stories at the National Library. If you are someone interested in Australia’s first constitution, you could review that at the National Archives. Canberra is a perfect fusion of the past and the present- offering experiences to cater to anyone’s tastes.
The ACT is bounded by the Goulburn-Cooma railway line in the east, the watershed of Naas Creek in the south, the watershed of the Cotter River in the west, and the watershed of the Molonglo River in the north-east. The ACT also has a small strip of territory around the southern end of the Beecroft Peninsula, which is the northern headland of Jervis Bay.
The Australian Capital Territory contains agricultural land (sheep, dairy cattle, vineyards and small amounts of crops) and a large area of national park which is Namadgi National Park. Major portion of Namadgi national Park consist of mountainous regions, forest, creeks, Naas and Murrumbidgee Rivers. You could make use of the bushwalking tracks, cycling tracks or maybe enjoy a day out fishing on the banks of the various lakes and rivers.
The region is known to have four distinct seasons. A warm spring, a hot dry summer, a cool autumn and a very cold winter which could witness occasional snow fall. The best time to visit the ACT would be the autumn when there is a fascinating display of golden foliage signifying the autumn leaves.  The spring flower show is also an extremely popular family event held each year in the region. It is estimated that more than 2 million Australian and overseas tourists visit the ACT region every year.
