Work of Art. Article first published in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/victoria/work-of-art/

Located in rainforest country in Victoria’s Far East Gippsland, the tiny town of Orbost is the gateway to the wonderful Wilderness Coast. Orbost is about a 45 minute drive from Lakes Entrance. The Orbost Woodworkers and artisans Exhibition Centre is a work of art in itself.

Designed to showcase local timbers, the OEC is the permanent home of the National Collection of Wood Design which features wood art. Couple of pieces are added to the collection every year though an Acquisition Prize. The collection has more than 35 outstanding wood pieces, created mainly from Australian Timbers and recycled timbers.

For those who are interested in owning a piece of art, the OEC has a large retail area full of wooden and other artworks – sculptures, bowls, boxes, furniture, jewellery and other unique craftwork all made by local artists.

There is a gallery featuring different monthly art exhibitions and you could also see the exceptional Talking Wall Project  which is a visual story of the Snowy River from its beginnings  thousands of years ago  to modern time, painted by local artists of Orbost and surrounds. This Exhibition Centre houses great wood and art and is a must to see for all who visit the Lakes Entrance area.

Lakes Entrance is a popular holiday destination with so much to enjoy. We invite you to stay in one of the Lakes Entrance accommodation offered by OzeHols and explore many more attractions in this beautiful region.

Hidden Savings

Hidden Savings. Article was first published in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/australia/hidden-savings/

Have you been postponing your holiday because  holiday accommodation is too expensive? Here are a few tips to make your summer holiday more affordable and become a reality.

If you plan your holiday during the summer school holidays, the trick is to plan it outside of the public holidays. Christmas public holidays to the end of first week of January are the most expensive, and the period with highest demand for holiday accommodation in Australia. You will obviously pay a premium if planning to book holiday accommodation during this period. The smarter option is to holiday during the shoulder period – just before the Christmas vacation and during the second half of January. Demand is fractionally lower, which means you will be able to pick a deal. Early December, late January and early February are periods you will be able to grab deals and specials from most holiday accommodation providers.

The coastal properties are cheaper during the winter school holidays and many properties offer attractive discounts and deals during the winter school break. Take your time to select properties which offer discounts and specials. If you are looking for value for money and still want a beach holiday during the winter school holiday period, then why not consider the spectacular beaches in the tropical north of the island – Cairns, Port Douglas area.

If you are a young family, you could avoid your summer vacation during the school holidays altogether. Consider your vacation outside of school and public holidays. May be even better idea to plan a midweek holiday. A midweek break – Sunday night arrival to Friday departure is definitely less dearer than opting for a weekend holiday.

You can save further by considering the type of accommodation. Backpacker hostels offer some affordable and exciting holiday options. These type of accommodation is spread out nationwide and fun-filled events are packed into every day of the week. While this is the cheapest accommodation option, it may not suit a family. Next to consider are the tourist parks and caravan parks. You can book a self contained cabin which sleeps 4-6 guests at a very reasonable tariff or may be bring along your caravan to a park at a powered facility.
Tourist parks are not the ideal choice of accommodation for everyone. There are plenty of beautiful self contained holiday homes and cottages all over Australia and many offer discounts and specials for longer durations. You will discover that larger the group, more money you save. Why not holiday with friends or family? Negotiate a deal with the property owner.
These days hotels and motels offer attractive deals to maintain occupancy.  However, hotels and motels may not be the cheapest if you are planning to holiday in a group or large family. Hotels and motels are ideal for couples or if you are a family of 4 to 5.

The tip which will stretch the budget further – stay away from prime spots – if you are looking for a fun beach holiday but cheaper accommodation, then stay away from the waterfront. The weekly rent could vary by more than  $1000 by just staying one street back or 800 meters to a km away from the waterfront.  If you are planning a snow holiday, look for accommodation away from the ski resorts. You may have to travel 30 minutes to get to the ski fields, but it definitely helps your bank balance. Most often you get back to base only to sleep, while spending the whole day in the resort.

Hope these tips will help you to plan and save money on your next holiday . Browse through a wide range of holiday accommodation in Australia listed in www.OzeHols.com.au  from backpacker hostels, tourist parks, self-contained, holiday homes, cottages, cabins and apartments to luxury holiday accommodation and more to find the perfect accommodation for your budget.

Blue Mountains – Grand Canyon Walk, Blue Mountains National Park, NSW.

This article was initially posted in www.ozehols.com.au http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/new-south-wales/blue-mountains-grand-canyon-walk-blue-mountains-national-park-nsw/

Do you enjoy bushwalking? New South Wales offer many trails with varying degrees of challenges.  One of the walks you would enjoy is the “Grand Canyon Walk”. This walk is in the world heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park. The walk takes you along the path of a canyon and in places, it avoids deeper and more dangerous sections of the canyon by following a path cut halfway up the cliff – This off track path offers spectacular views of the valley.
The forest vegetation along the path is mostly Dry eucalypt forest.  This 5.4 kilometer track will take you about 3.5 hours to complete. The degree of difficulty is categorised as “easy”.
The Blue Mountains is a 90 minute drive from Sydney. The walk begins from the intersection of Grand Canyon Loop car park and Neates Glen Track in Blackheath.
