Located in rainforest country in Victoria’s Far East Gippsland, the tiny town of Orbost is the gateway to the wonderful Wilderness Coast. Orbost is about a 45 minute drive from Lakes Entrance. The Orbost Woodworkers and artisans Exhibition Centre is a work of art in itself.
Designed to showcase local timbers, the OEC is the permanent home of the National Collection of Wood Design which features wood art. Couple of pieces are added to the collection every year though an Acquisition Prize. The collection has more than 35 outstanding wood pieces, created mainly from Australian Timbers and recycled timbers.
For those who are interested in owning a piece of art, the OEC has a large retail area full of wooden and other artworks – sculptures, bowls, boxes, furniture, jewellery and other unique craftwork all made by local artists.
There is a gallery featuring different monthly art exhibitions and you could also see the exceptional Talking Wall Project which is a visual story of the Snowy River from its beginnings thousands of years ago to modern time, painted by local artists of Orbost and surrounds. This Exhibition Centre houses great wood and art and is a must to see for all who visit the Lakes Entrance area.
Lakes Entrance is a popular holiday destination with so much to enjoy. We invite you to stay in one of the Lakes Entrance accommodation offered by OzeHols and explore many more attractions in this beautiful region.
