When holidaying in an island like Australia boating safetyguidelines should be adhered by all who plan to venture the beautiful
inland waterways, lakes or who plan to venture the coastline by boat.
We often hear amateurs as well as experienced boating enthusiasts
getting into difficulty in quite unexpected circumstances. Without
getting into too much technical details we have taken a common sense
approach and listed a few points for you to follow during your fun
boating trip next time. Very often the best way to enjoy the scenery
surrounding our beautiful Australia is from a water craft. So why not
try it out? But safety comes first!
Some tips for your safety;

current weather forecast. Go to the site and type “boating” in the
search field where you can obtain links to current weather conditions in
inland waterways and coast weather reports. - Always tell someone not joining you on the boating trip where you
are heading. If possible organise appropriate method of communicating. - Take the necessary and essential equipment.
- Carry adequate amount of fuel to last your journey.
- Carry adequate quantity of food and water for your journey.
- Ensure your watercraft or boat is reliable and has been checked for engine reliability, safety and has been serviced.
- You need to carry fire extinguishers in case of a fire and guard against any fire hazards.
- Do not overload the boat. Ensure you adhere to the stipulated capacity.
- Get familiar with the local boating regulations and distress signals.
- If possible obtain a map of the waterways from the local visitor
centre or if you are hiring a boat, the boat shed may provide you some
details on request. You could also download via the internet. - Do not consume alcohol while you are having fun on your boating trip.
