Tasmania: An Ecotourist’s Paradise

Tasmania: An Ecotourist’s Paradise. Article first published in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/tasmania/tasmania-an-ecotourists-paradise/

The island of Tasmania is one of the most picturesque locations on the
planet. It boasts beautiful sandy beaches, ancient rainforests and
breathtaking mountains. It is therefore little wonder it is such a popular
site for ecotourism<http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/7d12b0f6763c78caca257061001cc588/84e04703e1a91a53ca256c3200241725!OpenDocument>.
Nature has been one of the main draws to the state for tourists since the
late 1800s. However its ecotourism industry did not emerge until the 1970s.
Nowadays the industry is thriving, which is no surprise considering the
fact that twenty percent of Tasmania is classed as World Heritage area of
outstanding cultural and natural significance. The island possesses
vegetation, scenery and wildlife that are unlike those found anywhere else
on earth.

*Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens*

Tasmania’s capital city of Hobart is five minutes away from a range of
different beauty spots, making it a popular stop off point for cruises from
the UK <http://www.iglucruise.com/cruises-from-uk>, mainland Australia, New
Zealand and a host of other nations. Tourists come from far and wide to
stay in a city that lies on nature’s doorstep. Perhaps the best location to
visit near the city is the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. They are home
to conservation collections of over a dozen threatened plant species
and a ‘Chinese
garden <http://www.rtbg.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=365>’, which has been
created using traditional oriental gardening practices.
The Botanical Gardens also contain a garden that demonstrates innovative,
environmentally sensitive methods for reducing the harm that urban storm
water runoff causes to the environment. Rainwater is harvested from
building roofs, pathways and roads into a small basin with attractive,
native vegetation planted in it, showing that a storm water treatment
system can be incorporated into a visually appealing landscape design.

*National Parks*

Another feather in the cap of Tasmania’s ecotourism industry is its
nineteen different national parks, which offer visitors a huge choice of
fascinating landscapes to discover, from towering mountains to
awe-inspiring forests and waterfalls. Ben Lomond National Park in the
northeast of the island is one of the most impressive of these parks. It
boasts beautiful snow-covered mountaintops, an outstanding variety of
glacial features and a plethora of different rare bird species.
Douglas-Apsley National Park is also well worth a visit. It contains deep
river gorges, waterfalls, pockets of rainforest and a host of unusual
plants and animals.

*Eco Cabins*

For dedicated ecotourists who possess a desire to know what it feels like
to live in the Tasmanian wilderness, the Rainbow Retreat Wilderness Eco
Cabins near St Marys are the perfect option. They offer ocean-view
accommodation on a wildlife nature reserve and are ran one hundred percent
on wind and solar power. The downside is that the cabin owners restrict
water use in order to conserve resources, which might be inconvenient at
times. It is worth it for the panoramas though, as they are absolutely
stunning.

*Huon Valley*

If white, sandy beaches and picturesque orchards and vineyards are your
thing then you will love the Huon Valley, which is just half an hour’s
drive from Hobart. It is home to the mighty eucalyptus regnans, which are
the world’s tallest flowering plants, and boasts a mixture of wild, rugged
landscapes, friendly small towns and well-kept garden features. It is
perfect for those who want to get away from it all, as the entire region
has a population of just fewer than fifteen and a half thousand people even
though it contains a total of seven different towns. The dark, still waters
of the River Huon are positively mesmerizing. They are so tranquil that
rumour has it that if you stare into them for long enough, you will see the
reflection of your soul.
If you are searching for Huon Valley accommodation, OzeHols offer a wide range of holiday accommodation in Huon Valley.

*Tahune Forest Air Walk*

The Tahune Forest Air Walk offers another opportunity to witness some of
the Huon Valley’s most beautiful scenery. It features a spine-tingling
swinging bridge across the Picton and Huon rivers and lush, green forest
filled with wildlife. The attraction also provides the opportunity to learn
about the forest, increasing participants’ understanding of human beings’
interactions with the natural world and encouraging conservation. The best
thing about attractions of this ilk is that they foster a love of natural
spaces. Visiting a large city has its perks but the main benefit of a
holiday in Tasmania is that it allows you to avoid the hustle and bustle of
everyday and experience life how it is intended to be lived.
We invite you to visit beautiful Tasmania and enjoy the island’s beauty while staying in one of the holiday accommodation in Tasmania offered by OzeHols.

Delicious Wine

Delicious Wine. Article first posted in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/victoria/delicious-wine/

If you love your wines and plan a visit to Lakes Entrance in Gippsland, then make that special trip to Nicholson River Winery which specialises in Riesling, Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Botrytis Sweet and Sparkling Wines. The wines are priced between $12.00 to $35.00.

“It’s hard to meet a keen wine drinker who either doesn’t love or at least admire Nicholson River’s Chardonnay – considered by many pundits to be one of Australia’s greatest. It shows intensity and power, but with an emphasis on structure rather than fruity-tuitiness. And it’s from a tiny little place on Victoria’s east coast near Lakes Entrance. Crop levels are low here, and Bass Strait often gives this area a real blast, but Nicholson River happily soldiers on. Pinot Noir is well worth a second taste here, too.” Ben Canaider
‘Ken and Juliet Eckersley’s Nicholson River is one of Victoria’s most distinctive and beautiful wineries. It is set in a scenic setting, above a cliff on one side overlooking a Streeton-like view of the beautiful Nicholson River valley, with a broad panorama across the distant Gippsland Lakes and Bass Strait on the other side.  The cellar door, an 1880 farmhouse, is the perfect place to chat with the owners Ken and Juliet, whose thoughtful information and intelligent views on wine are refreshing. The wines made here cross a broad range of styles, with Chardonnay the most famous, Pinot Noir too, but the whole range of wines makes a unique tasting experience.’ Ralph Kyte – Powell

Come, come to Kin Kin

Come, come to Kin Kin. The article was first published in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/queensland/come-come-to-kin-kin/

Have you been to Kin Kin? It is a quaint town located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, circa 40 minutes’ drive from Noosa Heads. Kin Kin is an area well known for its art scene and great tasty food. The drive to Kin Kin will enable you to enjoy the wonderful scenery surrounding the Noosa area. Kin Kin is an aboriginal word referring to a small black ant that was common in the area. It may have been so common they named it twice!

Kin Kin began its days as a timber town and was famous because of its much sought after cedars and eucalypts. In later years it became an area popular for dairy farming.

Nowadays many artists reside in the area including an artist who makes all his pieces from recycled metals. Kin Kin is also an area that has become synonymous with health and wellbeing with a well known health retreat and a massage school located here. You may have already heard, Kin Kin tea (a herbal drop) is also produced in the region.

Kin Kin is also close to a series of nature tracks and trails called the Noosa Network Trail. Nature lovers, hikers, mountain bike riders and horse riders are all able to use the tracks.

Golfers

Golfers. Article first published in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/new-south-wales/golfers/

Thinking  of a golf vacation? Have you ever considered Mollymook?  You don’t have to be a professional either. Mollymook is the home of two beautiful golf courses. The beach side golf course is a 9 whole course set along the waterfront of beautiful Mollymook beach. Many who visit Mollymook on holiday patronise the 9 hole beachfront course. In my view the beachside course is better suited for amateurs. Prior bookings are generally not needed if you are planning to tee-off at the 9 hole course.  On many occasions I have taken my two sons (when they were between the ages of 7- 14 ) to the 9 whole course, hired a few clubs and swung our way up down the fairways. Let me tell you, its a load of fun for the whole family.

If you are one for a serious game, then visit the champion golf course, better known as the Hill Top Golf course. This is a 18 hole public course.

Whether you are a professional or an amateur, make Mollymook your next golf destination. When taking time off from golf, we recommend you to patronise the stunning surf beaches as well as enjoy a bite in one of the many coastal cafes.

Calling Wine Buffs

Calling Wine Buffs. Article first appeared in www.ozehols.com.au, http://www.ozehols.com.au/blog/victoria/calling-wine-buffs/

Bogong Estate consists of 25 acres of pinot noir – nothing else. At Bogong Estate they love to share their passion for pinot noir and the beautiful vineyard setting with the valued guests who visit them. The usual cellar door experiences such as wine tastings, french style platters, a glass or two of pinot under a shady tree and a not so vigorous game of petanque are on offer.

They really take pride and enjoy running their Pinot Program. They spend the day with you walking the vineyard, sampling the wine in progress and finally blending and bottling a couple of dozen of your unique blend of pinot noir. The Pinot Program is great for one or more couples and small groups and it can be tailored to suit your needs. The Pinot Program makes a fantastic and unique gift for the wine enthusiasts.
This is a great opportunity to indulge in your winemaking fantasies.

The Tynan family produces a wide range of premium, handmade cool climate Pinot Noirs. The wines are all grown and made on site at Bogong Estate located high in the Kiewa Valley near Mt Beauty and the Falls Creek Ski Resort.

The wine region, Alpine Valleys, has a strong continental climate and is a classic cool climate region. The pinots are hand-picked, crushed, and fermented in small open vats. Since they mainly use wild/natural yeast ferments, it results in full flavours and great character in the wine. In order to gently extract the essence of the cool climate pinot, each batch is hand plunged many times daily and then softly basket pressed. The winemaking is labour intensive, gentle and hopefully, true to the traditions of Burgundy.

When you plan to visit Falls Creek area, stay in one of the many Falls Creek accommodation offered by OzeHols. There are many Falls Creek holiday rentals to suit your budget.
